Embargo Craft Beer Bar

Embargo is not the easiest place to find. Tucked down a maze of narrow alleys in Phnom Penh's BKK1 neighbourhood, its hidden entrance is marked only by a 'You Made It' sign — which pretty much sums up the vibe. This is a bar for people who seek out good beer rather than stumble upon it, and the reward for the effort is one of the finest craft beer selections in Cambodia.

The rotating tap list — usually 8 to 9 lines — features an Asian-heavy selection with mainstays from Riel Brewing, Heart of Darkness (Vietnam), Projekt Brews, and other regional favourites. The bottled and canned range extends the offering further, covering a wide spread of local and imported craft brews. Tasting flights are available, making it an ideal spot to work through the unfamiliar labels at your own pace.

Embargo has no kitchen of its own, but outside food is welcome and the bar staff will cheerfully order from neighbouring restaurants on your behalf — they wouldn't want you to get lost navigating back out into the alleys! The interior spans two floors, with the upstairs being the main hang-out zone. Free Wi-Fi is available. Open Monday to Saturday from 4PM, closed Sundays.
