Great Leap Brewing

Founded by American Carl Setzer and his Chinese wife Liu Fang, Great Leap is widely credited as the city's first modern craft brewery, building a local identity with Sichuan pepper, Tieguanyin oolong, honey and chrysanthemum. The original No. 6 site remains the heart of the operation, pouring house beers such as Honey Ma Gold, a Sichuan pepper honey ale, and Banana Wheat.

It sits 200 metres west of Nanluoguxiang and is notoriously hard to find, so allow time. The courtyard is dog-friendly; there's no kitchen, but staff will help you order delivery. Pints run RMB 45–55.
