Jing-A Brewing was founded in Beijing in 2012 by long-time friends Kris and Alex, and has grown into one of the city's best-known craft breweries. It runs a string of taprooms, which it calls beer temples, in Wukesong, Wangjing, Sanyuanqiao, Tongzhou, the CBD, Longfusi and Xingfucun as well as this one. The brewery makes a wide range of styles, looks for ingredients, techniques and stories that are distinctly Chinese, and regularly brews with visiting brewers and partners abroad.
The 798 taproom sits in the 798 Art Zone in Chaoyang, Beijing's best-known gallery district, and is set up for people combining beer with an afternoon of exhibitions. It is a bright room with high ceilings. Twenty-four taps pour Jing-A's regular beers and other releases, and a vending machine sells beer to take away.
This was Jing-A's first venue with a rooftop, which has DJ decks and is the place to be on warm afternoons and evenings. The taproom can also be booked for private events by phone.
It opens from 11am until late, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays. For a more food-led visit, Jing-A's Xingfucun brewpub on Xingfucun Zhong Lu serves Texas-style barbecue smoked in-house.
