RichKat Craft Brewing (Sheung Wan)

RichKat (貓員外 in Chinese) is one of mainland China's fastest-growing craft beer chains, and this ground-floor tap house at 238 Hollywood Road was one of its first two Hong Kong bars, opening in the summer of 2024 alongside a sister site on Pottinger Street in Central. Founded in 2017 by master brewer Gavin Hemple, RichKat brews everything in Foshan, unfiltered and unpasteurised, with live yeast in the can.

The range leans towards fruit, flowers and easy-drinking styles as much as hops. Standouts include the Star Boy TDH Hazy IPA, Crushed Dreams Grape Gose, Osmanthus Wheat and Chocolate Imperial Milk Stout, and menus seen by reviewers also list a Peach Wheat, Berliner Weisse, Jasmine Wit, Cadet Golden Ale and a Hawthorn Kölsch. Its beers have medalled at the World Beer Awards and Brussels Beer Challenge. The bar launched with cans and now pours draught as well; one reviewer counted a dozen beers on tap.

Prices are pitched low for central Hong Kong, with the Kölsch listed at HK$28 and most beers in the HK$38 to HK$48 range. Between noon and 8pm a 12-inch pizza plus two drinks is HK$99, with wine, soft drinks or coffee available in place of beer, and on Wednesday evenings buffalo wings are HK$6 each. Pizza is the main food, and reviewers single out a spicy curry chicken version.

Big screens show live sport, and there is a little outdoor seating on the Hollywood Road frontage. The stretch between Sheung Wan and Soho fills with after-work drinkers, which makes this an easy first stop before heading up the hill. Reviewers praise friendly service, and hours can vary, so check the bar's Instagram before a weekday-afternoon visit.
