Kowloon Taproom is the craft beer anchor of Tsim Sha Tsui, and for a long stretch it was the only serious one on this side of the harbour. The premise is refreshingly strict: 100% local. Sixteen taps rotate through Hong Kong breweries — Moonzen, Lion Rock, Young Master, Kowloon Bay, Mak's, Citibrew, Heroes, Black Kite, Hong Kong Beer Co, Gweilo and Yardley Brothers all feature — with bottles from the same roster in the fridge. Tasting flights let you work through several at once, and the menu carries brief tasting notes for each pour.

It's a compact, unfussy room: beer posters and coasters papering the walls, a chalkboard of daily specials out front, and a bar that opens directly onto Ashley Road with a handful of stools on the pavement for street-side drinking. Standard pub food — burgers, wings, nachos, a Reuben — holds up its end without pretending to be the point.

The bar is the Kowloon sibling of Hong Kong Island Tap House in Tin Hau and Soho Taproom in Central, all under the same ownership and sharing the same local-first philosophy. It's two minutes from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Exit L5 and roughly ten minutes on foot from the Star Ferry, opening early afternoon and running late.
