COBE JKT — short for Coffee & Beer — has been quietly anchoring Jakarta's craft beer community since it opened under the name Coffeebeerian in 2012. What started as four friends wanting a place to meet for morning coffee and evening pints has grown, over eleven years, into one of the city's most respected craft beer institutions. The venue moved from its original Panglima Polim home to the current address on Jl. Ciragil II, where a renovation introduced the concrete-floored interior, shelves lined with empty bottles from local and international breweries, and a covered outdoor terrace framed by the building's signature yellow windows.

The beer list is the point. Taps rotate constantly — typically eight to ten lines at any one time — drawing on Jakarta's homebrew community as well as established Indonesian craft labels like Kura Kura, Black Sand Brewery, and Kulturale. The chalkboard changes on Fridays, when a fresh crop of kegs arrives and the bar fills with regulars who treat the evening like a standing appointment. Staff know their regulars by name and by order, and the knowledge level is high enough that a first-timer describing a flavour preference will walk away with exactly the right pour.

Coffee runs parallel to the beer programme throughout the day: manual brews from local roasters, espresso-based drinks, and the occasional coffee-beer hybrid that reflects the dual identity baked into the venue's name. Food is simple and rotates regularly — pork belly fries, fish tacos, dumplings, sourdough — chosen to complement the beer rather than compete with it.

Open from early morning through to midnight, COBE JKT is one of the rare Jakarta venues that genuinely serves all parts of the day: cyclists stopping in before work, regulars nursing a laptop through the afternoon, and the full craft beer crowd arriving after 6pm. The atmosphere is unhurried, the music is at conversation level, and the community that has built up around it over more than a decade is the venue's most compelling offering.
