Tall Boys Brewing is a Nagoya brewery set up by three friends, head brewer Collin with Alex and Robb, who felt the city's craft beer scene was underserved. Collin had home-brewed in the United States and interned at Heretic Brewing in Fairfield before the launch. The brewery began as a "phantom" operation, releasing its first beer, Two Hop Pale Ale, in November 2020, and opened this taproom on 31 January 2022, before its own brewhouse came on stream later that year.
The taproom is in the Kasadera neighbourhood of Minami Ward in southern Nagoya, about five minutes on foot from Kasadera Station. Eight taps pour mostly house beers plus a few guests, largely from other Japanese breweries. Beers that have appeared regularly include Dazed & Confused, a 5.8% hazy IPA, Two Hop Pale Ale and Winter Breakfast Coffee Stout, and the brewery's site currently features Restomod, a 6% "modern IPA". Pints have started from around ¥900, and growler fills are available to take home.
Food is simple and made to go with beer. The Reuben sandwiches use brisket from Midtown BBQ, the central Nagoya barbecue restaurant run by co-founder Robb, on bread from a local bakery. Seating is a mix of counter stools, sofas and chairs, and the room has a relaxed neighbourhood feel.
The brewery also puts on events beyond the bar: its site lists Craft Sprint, a fixed-gear sprint tournament with free spectating, at the brewery on 24 October 2026, and its beers travel to tap takeovers in Tokyo and Osaka. Listings show the taproom open in the evening from Tuesday to Thursday and from mid-afternoon Friday to Sunday, with Monday closing, but published hours have varied, so check the brewery's Instagram before making the trip out to Kasadera.
