MAHOWBREW is a brewpub at 2-4-3 Tsuboya in Naha, in a district better known for Okinawan yachimun pottery than for beer. The name comes from WITCH'S, the sandwich shop founder Tatsuro Omokawa previously ran here; crowdfunding to turn it into a full brewpub began in October 2023, brewing started in 2024 and the venue opened that August. The aim, in the brewery's words, is beer that is as free and fun as magic, and that makes people want to come to Okinawa.
The taproom has glass walls through which you can see the brewing tanks, and 15 taps, with around ten house beers on at a time. Styles run from lager, pilsner and IPA to beers made with fruit and herbs, and the brewery adds three or four new beers each month; by spring 2026 it had produced more than 40 since opening. Stronger beers appear too, among them Three-eyed Raven, an 8.5% Baltic porter, Depths of Muspelheim, a 7% wee heavy with peated malt, and Doomsday Pythoness, a 9% triple IPA. Barrel-aged releases above 10% and collaborations were announced in late 2025.
Recognition came quickly: MAHOWBREW won two golds and a bronze at the International Beer Cup 2025 in Osaka. Half pours start at 800 yen and cans from 780 yen; the can labels use leather artwork by a Naha craftsman, and cans are also sold through the online shop.
Opening hours are 6pm to 11pm on weekdays and 3pm to 11pm at weekends, with the taproom closed on Tuesdays. The weekend afternoon opening fits around a visit to the pottery shops of Tsuboya. It suits drinkers keen on inventive, small-batch Okinawan beer.
