The Harajuku Taproom is Baird Beer's yakitori-focused Tokyo outpost, tucked away on the second floor of the No-surrender Building on Jingumae, a few minutes from Harajuku Station and just far enough off Takeshita Street to feel like a genuine local find.
Baird Brewing was founded in Numazu, Shizuoka in 2000 by Bryan and Sayuri Baird, and remains one of the most respected craft breweries in Japan. The taproom pours the full core range fresh, including Rising Sun Pale Ale, Suruga Bay Imperial IPA and Red Rose Amber Ale, alongside seasonal releases and a hand pump for real ale. The seasonal beers built around Japanese ingredients, such as the Mikan Ale, are usually the ones worth asking about.
The room itself is warm and wood-heavy, with bar seating, tables and a wall of bottles above the counter. The kitchen is built around charcoal grilled yakitori and izakaya bar food, with menus in both English and Japanese and bilingual staff. Baird taprooms are entirely non-smoking so the aroma of the beer and the food comes through cleanly.
