The Takadanobaba Taproom is the most recent addition to Baird Beer's Tokyo lineup and the largest of the three. It sits on the second floor of the Mani Pholia building on a back street a few minutes from Takadanobaba Station, in a student-heavy neighbourhood that has quietly built up a small beer scene of its own.
The bar runs a long counter with heavy wooden furniture and a tap wall carrying around two dozen lines, giving it the broadest Baird selection of any of the Tokyo taprooms. Core beers from the Shizuoka brewery sit alongside seasonals and occasional rarities, and menus are printed in both English and Japanese.
The kitchen leans on kushikatsu, deep-fried skewers of cheese, mushroom, aubergine and more, alongside British-style chips and other bar food. The covered outdoor terrace at the back, strung with festoon lights and decorated with Baird's own artwork, is the main draw in warmer months and is a genuine rarity for a Tokyo craft beer bar.
