TDM 1874 Shimokitazawa is the Tokyo outpost of TDM 1874 Brewery, one of the most respected craft breweries in the Kanto region. The brewery is owned by Sakaguchiya, a sake and liquor merchant that has operated from the same site in Tokaichiba, Yokohama since 1874. The brewing operation launched in 2017 under British head brewer George Juniper, who trained at Dark Star Brewing in England and Hitachino Nest in Japan before joining TDM, going on to win Best New Brewer in Japan.
This Shimokitazawa taproom opened in January 2022 on the second floor of the Nansei Plus building, directly opposite the station's southwest exit — visible from the platform. The open, light-filled space has counter seating, a standing area, and large windows overlooking the station precinct. Six taps pour TDM's own beers exclusively, including the beloved British Best Bitter (B.B.B.), rotating IPAs and DIPAs, seasonals, and occasional ciders. Pours come in half-pint (240ml) from ¥700 and US pint (473ml) from ¥1,150.
A large fridge of TDM and guest-brewery cans is available for take-home purchase, and a short menu of light Western dishes — burgers and fried prawns — keeps the focus on the beer. The bar is entirely non-smoking, has no table charge, and offers free Wi-Fi.
