T.Y. Harbor

T.Y. Harbor is one of Tokyo's longest-running brewpubs, operating from a converted warehouse on the canal at Tennozu Isle since 1997. The white gabled building with its brewery signage is a local landmark, about six minutes on foot from Tennozu Isle Station and roughly fifteen from Shinagawa.

The on-site brewery keeps eight house beers on tap at any time, led by the pale ale that has been in the range since opening, plus monthly seasonals and limited releases developed at the company's second Pilot Brewery that are only available here. The wheat ale and amber are consistently well reviewed.

The setting is the real draw. There is a craft beer bar at the front, a cavernous high-ceilinged dining room in the old warehouse space, a heated waterfront terrace and a lounge that floats on the canal itself, which needs to be reserved ahead. A section is set aside for guests with dogs.

Be clear about what this is: a modern American restaurant with a serious brewery attached, rather than a beer-geek taproom. The menu runs to barbecue ribs, artisan pizzas, stacked sandwiches and desserts, with bread from the Breadworks bakery next door. Prices sit above the Tokyo craft beer average, and booking is advisable.
