Abundance (Jalan Besar)

Abundance made its name under an HDB block in Redhill with playful, modern Taiwanese comfort food, cheeky branding and a strong craft beer selection, and this Jalan Besar outlet, opened in 2023, was its first step beyond that original void-deck spot. It is now one of three branches, alongside Redhill and Century Square in Tampines, and has a slightly bigger, if still cosy, dining room at 399 Jalan Besar.

The beer side leans on a curated range of local Singapore craft beer, chosen to stand up to bold flavours, with cocktails as well. The kitchen runs the same modern Taiwanese playbook as its siblings, and portions are generous. The gua bao that started it all comes loaded with melt-in-the-mouth braised pork belly, house pickles, coriander and sweet peanut crunch, and there are fish and crispy chicken buns, mini versions for sharing and herbal braised pork rice. Noodles include Taiwanese beef noodle soup, golden chicken mee sua and Taiwanese cold noodles, and there are wok dishes such as san bei chicken and a recent Mapo Trio of tofu, noodle and rice bowls. Mala popcorn chicken and salt and pepper squid make good drinking snacks, and the menu flags vegetarian and spicy options.

The room can get tight and lively on busy nights, which regulars take as part of the charm, and service is quick and warm. Food writers from ieatishootipost, SethLui, Eatbook and 8 Days have all been fans.

It opens daily from 11am to 11pm, with the kitchen's last orders at 10pm, which makes it one of the more reliable late options for a beer and a Taiwanese snack on the strip. Tables can be booked online, and delivery is available too.
