Lion Brewery Co

Lion Brewery Co traces its lineage to a brewery that once stood on the banks of the Thames in London, producing hopped ales for export to British trading posts around the globe in the 1800s. That original brewery was demolished in 1949. In 2018, four beer-loving friends brought it back to life in Singapore — the Lion City — reopening it as a craft brewery and gastropub in a characterful heritage building on Club Street in Chinatown.

The taproom pours 25 beers at any one time, including Lion Brewery Co's full house-brewed range alongside seasonal and guest taps. House beers span the classic styles: the Island Lager (FHA Best Pale Lager 2024), the Straits Pale Ale, a New England Session IPA, a Cold Smoke Nitro Stout, and rotating seasonal specials — an oolong-infused national day lager, a festbier for Oktoberfest, a mango pale ale. Old English cask hand-pumps sit alongside the modern keg taps, a rare touch in Singapore. The tap selection is also available with both slushie and classic cocktail variations.

Lion Brewery Co has built a cult following around its 'Pressure Hour' concept: once the gong sounds, all house-brewed beers are free-flow for a full hour — on the condition that no one in the bar leaves or goes to the toilet. The format has become one of Singapore's most talked-about bar experiences. Brewery tours are also available, walking guests through the on-site brewing setup for a behind-the-scenes look at how the beers are made.

The food menu is built around the beers: Straits Pale Ale-battered fish and chips, nitro stout chocolate cake, popcorn chicken, and poutine with Lion Brewery beer cheese. The space has both indoor pub-style seating and outdoor tables, with a pool table and bar games adding to the atmosphere. A secret speakeasy bar sits within the venue for those who know to look for it.
