Welcome Ren Min

Welcome Ren Min is a craft beer stall inside Maxwell Food Centre, at unit 01-33 on Kadayanallur Street in Tanjong Pagar, the hawker centre made internationally famous by Anthony Bourdain's fondness for Tian Tian chicken rice. It began life as 3rd Culture Brewing Co. and was rebranded in 2020 by founder Manbeer Singh as Ren Min ("people" in Mandarin), with the red hawker-centre chair as its logo, a statement that craft beer belongs in everyday food-court culture.

The beers are brewed under the Ren Min label and priced to suit a hawker centre rather than a cocktail bar. The rotating line-up takes inspiration from Singapore's architectural landmarks, from a citrusy session IPA to a farmhouse ale with Sicilian orange and pink peppercorn, and goses and pale ales have featured too. There are beers in bottles and cans as well as on draught, and fresh draught beer can be taken away if you bring a growler or any container with its volume clearly marked.

The format is the whole point: pull up a stool, grab a plate from a neighbouring stall and pair it with a pint. Maxwell's chicken rice and other hawker classics make natural partners for a session IPA, and the prices are kept affordable.

Beer Asia lists it as open from 5.30pm to 10.30pm Monday to Thursday, noon to 11pm on Friday, noon to 10.30pm on Saturday and noon to 9.30pm on Sunday, so it is an evening stop on weekdays. It is a short walk from Maxwell MRT station. Sister stall Hello Ren Min runs the same concept at Old Airport Road Food Centre near Dakota MRT, making the pair an easy way to drink local craft beer with local food.
