Magpie Brewing Co. was founded in 2011 by four friends in a quiet Itaewon alley and opened its first brewshop in 2012 with a single pale ale on tap. That beer — Magpie Pale Ale, now a Korean classic — helped spark the Korean craft beer revolution. Magpie later won the first East Asian Beer Championship Gold Medal awarded to a Korean brewery and brewed the country's first commercial sour beer.
Today the production brewery is on Jeju Island, with beers shipped fresh to the Seoul taprooms. The original Brewshop in Itaewon (244-1 Noksapyeong-daero) is a cosy, no-frills affair with 10 taps pouring the core range — Pale Ale, Porter, Kölsch, IPA — alongside seasonals. The Basement space across the alley is a livelier companion venue. Outdoor seating in warmer months. No food menu; BYO or order delivery.
