Seoul Gypsy (Jongno Brewpub)

Seoul Gypsy is an independent Seoul brewery, and its main brewpub occupies a hanok, a traditional Korean house with a tiled roof, at 107 Seosulla-gil in central Jongno, near Gwonnong-dong and a short walk from Jongmyo Shrine. It is one of the more distinctive brewery settings in the city, pairing old architecture and atmospheric decor with a modern, experimental beer list.

The brewery's beers lean into Korean ingredients and techniques alongside more familiar craft styles. Up to a dozen beers pour here, and staples have included an unusual yogurt IPA and a barrel-aged imperial stout, with seasonal and one-off releases rotating through. Beer Asia's Seoul guide praises the helpful staff and the ambience, while noting that prices are higher than at many other Seoul craft bars, so this is a place for a few considered pours rather than a long session.

The brand has other venues too. The Fermenteria branch in Seochon (also listed) handles more of its sour and barrel-focused output, and there is a Hannam taproom near Itaewon, but this Jongno location is the original brewpub and the place to start.

The guide lists opening from 4pm to 11pm Tuesday to Friday and from 3pm at weekends, with the brewpub closed on Mondays. It works well after a visit to Jongmyo or Changdeokgung, and suits drinkers who want beers they will not find elsewhere, in a setting that could only be Seoul.
