23 Brewing was founded in 2013 by three American residents of Taipei who met on a homebrewing course, and 23 Public is the taproom where the brand started. It sits on Fuxing South Road in Da'an, about five minutes from Technology Building MRT, and is the quieter of the brewery's two Taipei venues.
The house range is the point: Taiwan Number One Pale Ale, Natural Blonde, Zone Out Cat coffee dark lager, cucumber and passionfruit sours, a double IPA and the unfiltered Uncut Pure AF. The six-glass flight is a menu staple and the sensible way to work through it.
Food is American-style hand-tossed thin-crust pizza, nachos, salted pork and fried snacks, with an English menu, free WiFi and power outlets β it is as much a place to sit and work through an afternoon as a night-out bar. There is a back room for groups. Average spend runs around NT$500.
