Beer Republic

Beer Republic occupies the ground floor of the Holiday Inn Bangkok but has its own street entrance and reads nothing like a hotel bar. The fit-out channels a 1920s European industrial warehouse — exposed ceiling fans, brick and steel, high ceilings — and the space splits into a loud front room with the band stage and big screens, and a quieter back section of semi-private booths. There is an outdoor terrace out front at street level for anyone who wants the Phloen Chit bustle as a soundtrack.

Eighteen taps run the full spread from macro lagers through to genuine craft: Singha, Asahi and Stella at one end, German and Belgian wheats (Hofbräu, Maisel's Weisse, Hoegaarden, Leffe) in the middle, then Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA, Vocation Hazy Pale and Vedett Extra IPA. Thai brewery Vana Brewing usually holds a line. Roughly 26 more arrive in bottle and can, spanning Belgian Trappist and abbey ales plus Southeast Asian labels from Thailand, Laos and the Philippines — the venue's own marketing claims "over 90 beers", which is generous, but the range is genuinely broad for central Bangkok.

The kitchen does a Thai and European pub menu with some ambition: the Republic Burger on brioche with bacon and Monterey Jack, barbecue pork ribs, crispy pork knuckle with house sauerkraut, New Zealand mussels, Chiang Mai sausage, flatbreads and pad thai goong. Draught runs about ฿130 for a half pint to ฿380 a pint, towers to ฿1,999, and mains around ฿200–300, all plus service and tax. Happy hour is late rather than early — discounted lager pitchers from 10pm, Sunday to Thursday. Live bands play most evenings and the screens carry live football, which makes Thursday to Saturday boisterous. A month-long Oktoberfest lands each September–October with German draught and a full Bavarian menu.

Location is about as easy as Bangkok gets: roughly one minute from BTS Chit Lom Exit 1, ten minutes from Siam, with parking validated through the hotel. The crowd is a mix of after-work Phloen Chit office staff, hotel guests, expats and tourist groups.
