Namton's House Bar is one of Chiang Mai's most cherished craft beer institutions โ a relaxed, garden-style bar on the east bank of the Ping River that has been welcoming knowledgeable drinkers and curious newcomers in equal measure for years. Crossing the river to reach it feels like a deliberate act of pilgrimage, and the experience on the other side justifies every step.
The bar is run by a proprietor with genuine expertise and enthusiasm for craft beer, and it shows in every aspect of the offering. A dozen or more rotating taps pour a selection that leans into Thai craft producers โ expect to find locally brewed beers that are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere in the city โ alongside international craft imports and the occasional tap takeover or small-batch collaboration. Five fridges keep a deep inventory of bottles and cans, and the staff are happy to steer you toward something you haven't tried before.
The setting is the other half of Namton's appeal. Sun-dappled outdoor seating on a front porch, a small canal running alongside the garden, and a neighbourhood character that feels a world apart from the busier Nimman strip make this an ideal long-afternoon destination. Tasting flights are available for those who want to explore multiple styles, and the food menu features well-executed Western dishes that hold up alongside the beer. A Chiang Mai essential.
