Outdoor seating available Black Sand Brewery is the trailblazer of Bali's craft beer scene, opened in 2019 by Italian-born surfer and brewer Mattia Di Bitonto on Jl. Batu Bolong in Canggu. The venue is unmistakable: a large industrial warehouse with high ceilings, exposed stainless steel brewing tanks behind the main bar, and a sprawling semi-outdoor beer garden packed with long communal tables — built for exactly the kind of long, beer-filled afternoons Bali does best.
Two bars serve Black Sand's own range of fresh, unfiltered, unpasteurised craft beers brewed on-site: a crisp German-style Kölsch, a hoppy IPA, a smooth Lager, small-batch seasonal releases, and even a house apple cider. A 'beer cave' at the rear stocks dozens of craft cans for takeaway or drinking in. The food menu — wood-fired pizzas, brisket tacos, lobster loaded fries, comfort classics — is taken as seriously as the beer.
Fridays draw the biggest crowds, with DJs until midnight. Weekly events include Pasta Thursdays, live music nights, and regular brewery tap takeovers. Reservations available; walk-ins welcome.
