5 Elements Brewing Co (Bia Ngu Hanh)

5 Elements Brewing Co, trading in Vietnamese as Cong ty TNHH Bia Ngu Hanh, is a Da Nang craft brewery led by English brewmaster Gary Bett, with Hoa Nguyen as CEO. Bett developed the range during the pandemic around the Vietnamese idea of the five elements, Kim (metal), Thuy (water), Moc (wood), Hoa (fire) and Tho (earth), using Vietnamese herbs and spices. The production brewery in Lien Chieu Industrial Park, at the foot of the Hai Van Pass, opened on 27 May 2023, and local press described it at the time as the largest craft brewery in Southeast Asia. The company says the brewhouse can make up to 9 million litres a year, and it has a sales office in Hai Chau, Da Nang and a branch in Ho Chi Minh City.

The beers

• 5E Kim (Metal), German-style weizen with Galaxy hops and mac mat leaves, 4.6%
• 5E Moc (Wood), a bitter, fruity ale with passion fruit and citrus peel notes
• 5E Thuy (Water), a low-carb beer with grape and melon flavours
• 5E Hoa (Fire), a beer with pepper, chilli and roasted spice notes
• 5E Tho (Earth), brewed with four barley varieties and shiitake extract
• 5E Teu Vang, lager with organic German hops and Australian malt, 4.8%
• 5E XPA, extra pale ale with Tasmanian hops, 5.6%

Besides the five-elements range there are the Chu Teu line, named after the comic character of Vietnamese water puppetry, and the Hoppiness range of hop-forward beers. The beers come in 330ml cans and bottles, which are sold in Vietnamese supermarkets including Lotte Mart and through online retailers.

The brewery's own taprooms trade as Brewhaha in Da Nang: Brewhaha Central at 16 Thai Phien, Hai Chau, Brewhaha Riverside at 96-98 Thang Long, Hai Chau, and Brewhaha Seaside at Lo 36 Hoang Ke Viem, Ngu Hanh Son, each serving the full 5 Elements range with Vietnamese food. The brewery also poured at the Da Nang Craft Beer Festival 2026 at the Ariyana Convention Centre. All three taprooms are listed below.
