The Madhouse Taproom

The Madhouse Taproom sits on Yim Po Fong Street in Mong Kok and has built one of the most distinctive beer programmes in Hong Kong. Unlike bars that blend local and imported, The Madhouse focuses almost entirely on hand-picked international imports sourced directly from breweries — Norwegian stouts, Scottish wild ales, Dutch IPAs and Belgian lambics you simply won't find elsewhere in the city.

The 20-draft setup rotates constantly, guided by a team with genuine expertise in beer styles, history and dispense. The bar also claims to be the only craft beer venue in Hong Kong with a counter-pressure bottle filling system, so you can take fresh pints home in sealed bottles. Guest taps occasionally feature Hong Kong local breweries alongside the international core.

The food menu is MSG-free and built around pairing: pork belly nachos, spicy chicken wings and loaded fries designed to stand up to big beers. The Mong Kok branch is the original and smaller of two locations (the other is in Causeway Bay), with a compact but lively interior that fills from the after-work crowd onwards.
