1602 Life Bar

Unclaimed
Malaysia's first licensed craft brewery, 1602 Craft Beer, pours all four of its house-brewed Sarawakian beers on tap at this lively taproom inside Lagenda Hills Seafood Restaurant in Kampung Kenyalang Park. Named after the year the first map of Borneo was published, 1602 brews a Fountain Lager, Jungle Pale Ale, Hunter Extra Dark, and Wheat Beer using traditional European techniques and locally sourced ingredients — a genuine slice of Borneo craft beer culture.

1602 Life Bar is the flagship taproom of 1602 Craft Beer — Sarawak's pioneering craft brewery and the first brewery in Malaysia to hold a brewing licence for locally crafted beer. Operating out of the popular Lagenda Hills Seafood Restaurant in Kampung Kenyalang Park, the bar serves all four core 1602 beers on draft: the Fountain Lager, Jungle Pale Ale, Hunter Extra Dark, and Wheat Beer.

The brewery was founded by local businessman Dato Sri Vincent Lee Kee Lung and is led by brewer Randy Liew, formerly of Thirsty Asia in Singapore. The brewing philosophy bridges the gap between imported craft beer and commercial lager, making it an accessible entry point for Kuching drinkers exploring craft beer for the first time.

1602 is also notable for pioneering the use of growlers in Malaysia and installing draft taps in local convenience stores for takeaway — a first for the country. The bar hosts events and tasting sessions, making it the natural home base for anyone wanting to explore Sarawak's own craft beer story.
