Freebird occupies the basement of the fifty-year-old Katong Shopping Centre, giving it an unexpectedly nostalgic backdrop for a modern craft beer bar. The taproom's centrepiece is a brass-painted pipe running along the counter, feeding twelve rotating taps that mix homegrown Singapore labels with harder-to-find imports: IPAs, stouts, porters and sours all make regular appearances. Nitro coffee and tea round out the drinks list for those pacing themselves.
The kitchen leans into playful fusion, with peanut butter chicken karaage bites, Hainanese chicken pasta, wasabi mayo wings, and a charcuterie board built for sharing. Freebird has since expanded into a neighbouring unit, adding proper outdoor seating alongside the original indoor taproom, making it an easy spot to settle in for a long session in the heart of Katong.
