Belgo is an anomaly in Saigon's craft beer scene: a true Belgian brewery that didn't just import the concept, but physically relocated an entire brewery from Belgium to Vietnam. Co-founders Gauthier and FranΓ§ois β both Belgian β shipped in the brewing equipment, sourced malt and hops from Belgium, and brought over a Belgian brewmaster to ensure what ends up in the glass is as authentic as it gets outside of Bruges.
The Da Kao taproom at 159A Nguyα» n VΔn Thủ is the flagship β a warehouse-style space in District 1 that references Belgian pub culture in its dΓ©cor (look for the Tintin comics on the walls) without feeling theme-park about it. The beer range covers all the classic Belgian styles: Belgo Blonde, Belgo Amber, Belgo Cherry, Belgo Full Moon (a rich dark brewed across eight different ingredients), and the seasonal Belgo Royale. These are brewed with traditional Belgian recipes, and they taste it β well-balanced, complex, and completely different from the American-influenced craft beers that dominate the rest of Saigon's tap lists.
Food is taken seriously here: the menu runs to traditional Belgian dishes and European comfort food, including proper mussels and frites, overseen by a Belgian chef. Belgo now has multiple locations across HCMC β the Da Kao original remains the most characterful, and the combination of its unusual provenance and genuine brewing quality makes it essential for any serious exploration of Saigon's craft beer scene.
