Independent Singapore craft brewery founded in 2020 by two school friends, brewing hazy IPAs, pilsner and fruited sours at its own brewery in Tuas.
Alive Brewing was co-founded by long-time friends Ryan Yue and Cheong Qing Yang, who met at junior college and left office jobs to brew full-time. The idea came from a 2019 pub crawl in Cologne, which later inspired their Kolsch, One Night in Cologne. They brewed their first batch in March 2020, in the middle of Singapore's lockdown, and released their first beer, False Sense of Security, in April 2020. Rather than contract brewing, the pair designed, engineered and installed their own brewing kit at a small production brewery in Tuas, in the west of the island. The brewery is best known for New England-style hazy IPAs, and has released well over a hundred different beers, from double and triple IPAs to smoothie ales and fruited sours.
The line-up rotates often, with limited releases such as the Lucky Omen and Deep Pulp double IPAs and the Mad Dog Skullcap triple IPA at 10%. Cans are sold in 473ml format through the brewery's own online shop.
Where to drink it
There is no Alive Brewing taproom, so look for it on tap at Singapore's craft beer bars. It is a regular on the list at Smith Street Taps, the craft beer hawker stall in Chinatown Complex, and on the all-Singapore rotating taps at Locality Craft Beers in Hexacube near Eunos. Out west, Get Some in Clementi keeps local taps that include Alive. All three bars are listed below.
