Bali microbrewery launched in November 2022 by two brewers, making six European-style beers from a Witbier to a 9.5% Weizenbock, with taprooms in Sanur and Surabaya.
Canard Brewing Co. launched in Bali in late November 2022, founded by two brewers. It works from original, often centuries-old recipes and focuses on classic European styles, served at the right temperature and in proper glassware, usually with a food pairing. One of its stated aims is to make beer more approachable for women, a nod to the brewsters who made most of the world's ale in earlier centuries. Its slim cans, with an elegant gold script logo, are sold across Bali and further afield in Indonesia.
The beers
Witbier, Belgian-style witbier, 4.8%
Kolsch, Kolsch, 4.7%
Session IPA, session IPA, 4.7%
Porter, English porter, 4.8%
Strawberry Gose, fruited gose, 3.7%
Weizenbock, weizenbock, 9.5%
Canard calls the Witbier and Kolsch its gateway beers for easy drinkers. Small batches such as a Nitro Stout, a Tripel, a White IPA and a Flanders Red Ale have appeared at the taprooms.
Where to drink it
The brewery's own Canard Brewing Taproom is on the Ngurah Rai bypass in Sanur, at Gg. Griya 80-X, after the original Legian taproom closed. In east Surabaya there is Canard Taproom & Cafe at Jl. Dr. Ir. H. Soekarno No. 14 in Rungkut. Elsewhere in Sanur, Lola's Taproom keeps it in the fridges, and in Jakarta it is part of the rotating Indonesian list at Beer Belly. All four are listed below.
