Sunbird Brewing Company

Sunbird Brewing Company launched in Singapore in May 2020, in the middle of the circuit breaker, so its first beers went out by home delivery rather than over a bar. It was founded by Clive Tan, who is also head brewer and had previously brewed at Archipelago Brewery, Brewerkz and Innocence Brewing, with Shirley Kew as co-founder. The beer is made at Sunbird's own brewery in the Mandai Foodlink building in the north of the island, which launched with a five-hectolitre, three-vessel, full-grain brewhouse. Sunbird is known for beers built around local flavours, from its Singapore Series of kueh- and dessert-inspired brews to tea and floral seasonals. At the 2023 Asia Beer Championship in Ho Chi Minh City it was named Champion Small Brewery of Asia, with gold medals for Galactic Tropical Stout and Lingonberry Hazelnut Milk Stout. City of Gold India Pale Lager won at Brew King Singapore 2021.

Ondeh-Ondeh Porter and Osmanthus Pear Ale belong to the Singapore Series, which has also included Kueh Salat Rice Lager and a Laksa Rice Ale for National Day 2026. Monthly seasonals, anniversary brews and collaborations rotate alongside, such as Cool Haze, a wheatgrass, mint and lime session IPA brewed with The Local Farm, and Blue Hour, a non-alcoholic pale ale.

Where to drink it

Sunbird does not currently run a public taproom. Its earlier bar, Crimson by Sunbird in Ang Mo Kio, has closed, and cans are sold through the brewery's online shop. On tap, look for it among the all-Singapore rotating taps at Locality Craft Beers off Changi Road, and on the rotating taps at SG Taps and Upward Taproom in the CBD, Komuniti Cats, and the three Yeast Side bars at King Albert Park, Farrer Park and Serangoon Gardens.
