Taiwan craft brewery with a production site in Xizhi, New Taipei, since 2014, supplying a chain of Zhang Men taprooms and restaurants around Taiwan and in Hong Kong.
Zhang Men Brewing (in Chinese, Zhang Men Jing Niang) set up its brewery in Xizhi, New Taipei, in March 2014, under the company Yan Niang Biotech. In May 2015 it opened its first taproom, in the Yongkang Street area of Taipei, and from 2016 it expanded to Kaohsiung, Taichung, Tainan and more Taipei sites. Its first overseas bar opened in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, in 2017, and newer Taipei openings include the Taipei Dome in 2024 and Mitsui LaLaport in Nangang in 2025. The brewery says its beer is brewed in small batches, unfiltered and unpasteurised, with no artificial flavourings, using its own recipes, equipment, brewers and yeast stock.
The beers
Double WTF, double IPA, 9.9%
Mountain Mist, hazy IPA, 7.2%
74 Turbo, American IPA, 6.6%
Silent Knight, Vienna lager, 5.4%
Professor X, Russian imperial stout, 8.6%
The range is large and changes often, with tea beers such as a red oolong, fruit beers, sours and barrel-aged stouts alongside the IPAs. Each taproom pours a numbered list of 24 or more taps, and draught beer can be taken away in growlers.
Where to drink it
Zhang Men runs its own bars. In Taipei the original is Zhang Men Yongkang at No. 10, Lane 4, Yongkang Street, and there are further Zhang Men branches around the city, including Neihu, Da'an and Xinyi. In Taichung, Zhang Men Taichung on Taiwan Boulevard has more than 30 taps, and in Kaohsiung Zhang Men KW2 sits in a harbourside warehouse. Outside its own venues, the Taiwan-only tap list at Learn Bar has included Zhang Men. All of these are listed below.
